DMX’s cause of death revealed three months after demise

Last Modified: 9th Sep

Hip-hop icon DMX’s cause of untimely death, on April 9, has been revealed officially. The rapper, who passed away at the age of 50, had a fatal cocaine-induced heart attack which cut off blood flow to his brain.

According to Vulture, a source from the Westchester County medical examiner’s office revealed, “It was cardiac arrest for a period of time, so there was no circulation to the brain. His death literally happened immediately because the brain was dead.”

So obviously, there were a number of days where he was on ventilatory support and so forth in the hospital... However, he was diagnosed brain-dead early on... He never woke up from [a] coma.” the source added.

After DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was hospitalized on April 2, his family revealed he was in a “vegetative state” following a drug overdose-induced heart attack.

“We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end.” DMX’s family had released a statement at the time.

Hopeful fans had gathered around Westchester’s White Plains Hospital, where the singer was on life support. They held prayer vigils for his recovery. However, it was reported that DMX was in grave condition.

DMX is survived by his fifteen children from nine different women.
