Elliot Page divorces wife Emma Porter after coming out as transgender

Juno star Elliot Page, formerly Ellen Page, has filed for divorce from wife Emma Porter. According to online records, the divorce papers were filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday.

He had come out as transgender in December and he had married dancer and choreographer Porter in December 2018.

In a joint statement, the former couple said, “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer. We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends."

Page, 33 was widely praised after he came out via social media.

He had shared in a lengthy statement, “I want to share with you that I am trans, my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at the point in my life. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”

Porter, 26, also supported him on his newfound sexuality, “I am so proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer, and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”

Page had come out as a lesbian in 2014.
