Former First Lady Melania’s mother Amalija Knavs passed away - Trump family attends private funeral
Former president of the United States Donald Trump and the rest of the Trump family attended former first lady Melania Trump’s mother Amalija Knavs’ funeral. The private funeral was held in Palm Beach, Florida on Thursday.
Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump were also present at the event to support their stepmother during this difficult time. Their spouses Jared Kushner and Michael Boulos also gathered at The Church of Bethesda-By-The-Sea.
Melania Trump, 53, wore large black sunglasses, an all-black blazer, and a skirt set while Donald Trump, 77, wore a dark navy suit. Their 17-year-old son Barron Trump also dressed in black.
The family stood at the front of the church’s steps alongside a priest as they waited for Amalija Knavs’ casket to enter the church.
Knavs’ death was announced last week.
Melania shared the news on January 9, 2024, via Instagram, “It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija. Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy.”
For Christmas of 2023, the former first lady was absent from the Trump family Christmas photo as her mother was reported to be very ill.
Donald Trump said at the time, “Hopefully she’ll be recovering. Hopefully, that’ll be OK, but it’s a tough one, a very tough one … We just want to wish Amalija that she gets better as quickly as possible.”
Amalija Knavs was living at Mar-a-Lago with her husband Viktor Knavs – near their daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. The cause of her death has not been revealed.
The Knas hailed from Slovenia and had become US citizens in 2018.
She was 78 at the time of her death.
