Retired TV soap star John Reilly has died has passed away, his daughter shared on Sunday. He was 84 years old.

The star’s big break was in the TV series Dallas in the 1980s. He went on to land his breakthrough role in the ABC daytime series General Hospital as retired spy Sean Donely.

The late actor gained so much popularity that at one point fellow actor John C. Reilly had to add his middle initial to his name to be separately identified, according to Judd Apatow’s old Tweet. 

“The brightest light in the world has gone out. Imagine the best person in the world. Now imagine that person being your dad. I’m so grateful he was mine,’’ Caitlin Reilly wrote alongside the picture of her now-deceased father on Instagram.

“I’m so grateful I got to love him. I’m so grateful I made it in time to hold him and say goodbye. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do, but I know he’ll be with me. I love you forever Daddy.”  Reilly, who is also an actress, said of her father.

The cause of his death is not yet disclosed.
