The actress had spoken about the mandatory separation the same day, the main reason being the COVID-19 pandemic. Sheen is currently studying at New York University and has been living in New York throughout the pandemic while Beckinsale went to Canada for work.

In Friday’s interview with Live with Kelly and Ryan, Kate Beckinsale shared, “I haven’t seen my daughter for two years because of everything. Also, I went to Canada working and she couldn’t come to see me. Two years of not seeing your child, to me, is the most preposterous thought.”

She also revealed that Sheen filmed her first feature film - The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent - alongside Nicolas Cage while staying in New York. When asked if Sheen is also to pursue a career in Hollywood, Beckinsale replied that she told her daughter to “be a doctor” instead.

The British actress and model was in a relationship with Welsh actor and producer Michael Sheen from 1995 to 2003. Lily, their only child together was born in 1999 in London. In a 2001 interview, Beckinsale revealed that she was "embarrassed" that Sheen never proposed but felt she was married to him.

After their break-up, Beckinsale went on to date and marry director Len Wiseman after meeting on the set of the 2003 film Underworld. They were married from 2004 to 2019, having separated in 2015. Her most recent romantic fling was with comedian Pete Davidson.
