Kris Jenner’s sister Karen Houghton dead, reveals cause
The cause of death of Karen Houghton, the sister of Kris Jenner, has been revealed nearly a month after her death.
She passed away at the age of 65 on March 19, 2024.
According to TMZ, Houghton’s death certificate lists her official cause of death as cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac arrhythmia. Type 2 diabetes was also named as a secondary underlying cause.
The papers also confirmed that Karen Houghton had been previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
She was cremated.
Kris Jenner, 68, announced the passing of her younger sister via Instagram.
She wrote, “It is with the heaviest heart and deepest sadness that I share that my sister Karen passed away yesterday unexpectedly.”
“My heart aches for my mom MJ and my niece Natalie and I pray that God guides us all through this difficult time,” she continued.
She described her sister as “sweetest, kindest, the most sensitive and vulnerable and so so funny.”
“Karen’s passing is a reminder that life is so short and precious and tomorrow is never promised. We must tell those we cherish how much we love them. I love you, my beautiful sister,” she added.
Kim Kardashian also honored her late aunt on social media.
Alongside a series of throwback pics, she wrote, “I love you so much Auntie Karen.”
Although the family seems to have mended their relationship, there was a rift almost a decade ago.
In April 2014, Houghton was reported to have asked her Facebook friends to “pray” for her “crazy” older sister because “she needs it.”
“Shes as [sic] nutcase. She doesn’t need prayers she needs sky vodka hahaha hahaha hahaha,” the mom of one told RadarOnline at the time.
Houghton had also revealed that Jenner would not return her phone calls.
“And it hurts me. I don’t care how much money you have or who you are, you’re my sister. I’m not afraid of her. … I can’t get to her anymore. But I guess it’s the money,” she told the outlet at the time.
The sisters were last seen publicly in Christmas of 2019 with other relatives.
