Last Modified: 9th Sep

The cause of death of social media influencer Emily Mitchell has been revealed by a medical examiner. She died just days before Christmas with her unborn child.

The 36-year-old was eating breakfast on December 22 morning when she suddenly became unresponsive. Efforts to save her and her fetus were unsuccessful.

The lifestyle blogger, who ran the Hidden Way Instagram account with over 178k followers died of a pulmonary embolism. Her family’s GoFundMe page announced the medical examiner’s findings on Tuesday.

“A few days ago we learned from the state Medical Examiners Office that the official cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. Although it is challenging to wrap our heads around how this could have happened, we know all first responders and medical personnel did everything they could to help, and therefore we are certain that it was simply her time; the Lord was calling her home.” a friend announced on behalf of Mitchell’s husband, Joseph.

A pulmonary embolism occurs when a clot is present in the arteries of a person’s lungs. Although the condition is common, it can be fatal and pregnant women are at higher risk.

The baby’s due date, which the couple had named Joey, remained announced. Mitchell did, however, announced the pregnancy on November 19. Her last post was on December 9 where she revealed that she would be undergoing her fifth cesarean section.
