Ryan Lochte and his wife Kayla Rae are to be parents for the third time.

In an interview with Good Morning America, the 31-year-old mom-to-be said, “Ryan is such an amazing, hands-on dad but you can’t be as hands-on as you’d like [when] you’re training so hard and it’s such a demanding schedule that you physically cannot do both.”

Kayla Rae Lochte, who is a model, revealed that her Olympic swimmer husband’s schedule has slowed down in preparation for expanding their family and she is grateful for it.

“This go-round, it’s been really nice to just be able to have him be present,” she added.

The 38-year-old athlete has been busy with new other ventures since he failed to qualify for the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He appears on the competition reality series The Traitors which also stars other big names Brandi Glanville, Kyle Cooke, and Arie Luyendyk Jr.

Kayla Rae focused on the benefits of her spouse’s career shift of her spouse, “It’s been this kind of wave of relaxing, ‘Oh, my gosh, we can actually enjoy this pregnancy together, we can actually enjoy this newborn phase together. I feel like the third kid, you have the Ph.D., you have survived parenting school...I always make a joke that I’m only fertile once a year.”

“We weren’t trying but not not trying. … We were just waiting for the timing to be right,” she added.

Ryan Lochte and Kayla Rae married in 2018 and are parents to son Caiden, 5, and daughter Liv, 3.
