‘Sister Wives’ stars Kody Brown and wife Janelle announce separation

Kody Brown, who rose to fame as a star of the reality TV show Sister Wives featuring his polygamous lifestyle, has announced separation from another wife- Janelle.

The 53-year-old family patriarch was once married to four women.

In a sneak peek of the upcoming Sister Wives: One on One special, he said, “Yes, we are separated.”

Janelle, also 53, was seen in the preview- confirming that they had indeed separated.

She told TV host Sukanya Krishnan in the video clip, “We’ve been separated for several months.”

Janelle had entered Kody Brown’s polygamous marriage in 1993.

The reality star married his first wife Meri Brown in 1990, his second wife Christine Brown in 1994, his third wife Janelle in 1993, and his fourth wife Robyn in 2014. 

Kody and his first wife Meri divorced in 2014 while in 2021, he and his second wife Christine ended their “spiritual union.” However, he still has a polygamous bond with Meri Brown and Robyn Brown and a platonic relationship with Meri, 51.

In an episode that aired earlier this month, Janelle said, “I never thought that I would ever be in a place where I would be questioning my relationship, but the last few years, I began to wonder if we’re compatible anymore. Maybe this doesn’t work anymore for me. I don’t know.”

During the 2019 COVID pandemic, the couple had clashed several times after Kody laid strict COVID-19 precautions.

“This is the same ol’ argument. I don’t need to be beaten into submission, made to kowtow. I’m just not. I just don’t need this. In the last 18 months, I’ve realized that I’m pretty good. I’m independent, and I’m not going to stand here and be yelled at. I just don’t need it. I don’t deserve it, and I don’t need it,” she had said.

She continued “I just think we’ve never had divides this deep. Christine has left, and that’s obviously [a] very, very big departure for what our family has looked like for many years. This is, like, the ultimate test of our family. Can we hold it together with all of this?”

Kody Brown shares 18 children with his four wives. He and Janelle have six children together- Logan, 28, Madison, 27, Hunter, 25, Garrison, 24, Gabriel, 21, and Savannah, 17.
