Sofía Vergara didn't want kids, ex-husband Joe Manganiello did - a reason to split?

Sofía Vergara has shared why she thought it was not “fair” to have children at the age of 51 - with her ex-husband Joe Manganiello.

In the May 2024 interview with People magazine, the actress confessed to one of the reasons she and the True Blood star divorced.

“There’s things in life that might sound like good ideas, but they’re not. I was a mother already. I know what it means to be a good mother or to try to be the best mother that you can, and that takes a lot of sacrifices, takes a lot of energy,” she said.

The Modern Family star added that she could have managed to have another kid via “science.” However, it was not in her plans to raise a newborn with her now ex-husband Joe Manganiello.

Vergara has a 32-year-old son named Manolo Gonzalez with her first husband Joe Gonzalez, who she welcomed when she was 19 years old.

She explained, “I totally respect where anyone wants to be a mom after 50. I didn’t think because of my career, the way I live my life, the way my marriage was, that it was fair to bring a kid to this world, and I’m not going to be able to give 100 percent.”

Vergara and Manganiello separated in July 2023 after seven years of marriage. 

She had previously confirmed that her younger husband’s desire to have children broke their marriage. Per the reports, as the years progressed, Manganiello’s wish to have children also intensified.

She confessed to El Pais in a January 2024 interview, “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mom. I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.”

“When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while, and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do,” she continued.

The former couple seems to have moved on quickly.

In October 2023, Vergara shared that she was dating orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman.

As for the Magic Mike XXL star, he was pictured with his new girlfriend Caitlin O’Connor, also an actress, as they left the gym together in September 2023.
