‘Surface’ actor Eddie Hassell shot dead at 30

Actor Eddie Hassell who is best known for his roles in NBC’s Surface and the Oscar-nominated film “The Kids Are All Right, was shot dead in Texas early Sunday, police said. He was 30.
According to authorities, the shooting took place in the Dallas suburb of Grand Prairie at around 1:50 a.m. The responding officer found the Texas-born actor, who lived in Waco, suffering gunshot wounds. The authorities also said that the officers rendered first aid to Hassell who was then taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Hassell’s representative told Variety that Eddie Hassell was shot in what appears to be a carjacking. However, the incident is under investigation.
Grand Prairie police revealed that the motive was still being investigated, but that a car had been taken from the scene of the shooting and was later recovered. No arrests have been made yet.
According to TMZ reports, he was shot in the stomach outside of his girlfriend’s apartment.
The actor had moved to Los Angeles at the age of 11 to begin his acting career. He also was an avid surfer and skateboarder.
