David Dencik’s birth took place on 31 October 1974 in Stockholm, Sweden. His birth name is Karl David Sebastian Dencik, to his father Lars Dencik, a Professor of Social Psychology at Roskilde University, and his mother Kerstin Allroth-Dencik, a Film Commissioner for television networks. 

He is not the only child of his parents and has a sibling, a brother named Daniel Dencik. The family had moved to Denmark when he and young, and as a youth studied in Brazil.

After discovering the Brazilian martial art Capoeira, David Dencik moved back to Sweden and attended the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts.

His ethnicity includes Ashkenazi Jewish (father) and Swedish (mother).

Dencik began his career in the early 2000s. After a series of minor roles, including in the 2003 film Reconstruction, he landed his breakthrough role with the TV series Lasermannen. He portrayed the character of John Ausonius for a total of 3 episodes in 2005.
