Born as Aisling Cliodhnadh O'Sullivan to father Brian O'Sullivan, an equine veterinarian and mother Helen O'Sullivan, a secondary school teacher, jockey trainer and former professional jockey, she is not the only child of her parents.

She has a sibling- a younger sister named Sinéad Kidao, a film costume designer. Her father died by suicide when she was three years old, which she did not know until she was 13 years old. Bea was raised by her mother.

Growing up her family was "obsessed" with horses and race meetings. She did work as a tour guide at the Irish National Stud but was not really interested in the racing industry.

Early Days

Following graduation from LAMDA, Aisling Bea worked as a dramatic actress but was instead cast in comedic television series such as Cardinal Burns (2012), and Dead Boss (2012). So she decided to try stand-up comedy. 

She won The Gilded Balloon So You Think You're Funny award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012 and for her show, C'est La Bea was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2013 Edinburgh Comedy Awards for Best Newcomer.

Comedy

Since 2009 Aisling Bea has performed stand up comedy at different events/channels. These include the shows Sabotage (2009), Fresh From the Fringe (2009) in BBC Radio 4, and Seann Walsh's Late Night Comedy Spectacular (2013), Russell Howard's Good News (2013) in BBC Three. 

Other shows are namely performances at Live at the Apollo (2014), Channel 4's Comedy Gala (2014-2016), Netflix Comedy Lineup (2018).
