Bashir Salahuddin’s birth took place on July 6, 1976, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was raised on the South Shore. His mother's name is Renee while the name of his father is not shared with the public.
He is not the only child of his parents and has eight siblings. A brother of his is Sultan Salahuddin, who is now a writer and the name of one of his younger sisters is Zuri. The names and details of his other siblings are not known.

Early Career
While a student at Harvard, he met fellow writer and friend Diallo Riddle. Together they created Paper Planes, a production company. After graduation, he worked as a paralegal in Chicago before moving to Los Angeles to work in the entertainment industry.
There he worked as a substitute teacher while also auditioning as an actor and comedian. Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle were described as the Fraternal Order of Comedy Nerder and he was included in the Variety article 10 TV Scribes to Watch.

Professional career
Salahuddin was also the title song vocalist for The Hebrew Hammer. The Salahuddin brothers and Riddle wrote South Side together.
Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle wrote Brothers in Atlanta, which was commissioned by HBO but was later canceled. In 2018 the duo’s show Sherman's Showcase was picked up by IFC.
As an actor Bashir Salahuddin has appeared in films Snatched (2017), Gringo (2018), A Simple Favor (2018), Top Gun: Maverick (2020), A Simple Favor (2018), and in the TV series Looking (2015), Maya & Marty (2016), Looking: The Movie, GLOW (2017-2018), and The Last O.G. (2018).
