Accident
On November 10, 2001, Mitchell was involved in a bike accident, which resulted in him being paralyzed from the waist down. His motorcycle crashed after he lost control of his bike after turning a corner and encountering gravel and loose pavement.

Early Days
At the beginning of his career, Mitchell was a member of the hip-hop group Groove B. Chill. He later went on to pursue a career as an actor. His debut role was in an episode of the 1985 sitcom The Cosby Show. This was followed by appearances in the TV series Here and Now (1992), Alex Haley's Queen (1993), and films House Party (1990), House Party 2 (1991), etc.
In 1993 Daryl Mitchell was cast as Dexter Walker in The John Larroquette Show. He portrayed the character for 84 episodes, until 1996.
Films, TV Series
Over the years Mitchell has starred in the films Quiet Days in Hollywood (1997), Lucky Numbers (2000), The Country Bears (2002), Inside Man (2006), Playback (2012), etc. He has also worked in TV films Rebound: The Legend of Earl "The Goat" Manigault (1996), and Toothless (1997), among others.
In addition, Daryl Mitchell has portrayed characters in the TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1994), Veronica's Closet (1997-2000), Ed (2002-2004), Brothers (2009), NCIS: New Orleans (2014-2021), Fear the Walking Dead (2018-present), Talking Dead (2018-2019), to name a few.
