Demian Bichir’s birth took place on August 1, 1963, in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico. He was born as Demián Bichir Nájera to parents Alejandro Bichir and Maricruz Nájera, both of whom were actors. His two siblings, brothers Odiseo Bichir, and Bruno Bichir are also actors.

Bichir was married to Lisset Gutiérrez Salazar (better known as Lisset). The couple was married from 28 July 2001 to 2003. He and his (now) ex-wife had dated for a total of three years before finally tying the knot.
He also has a daughter named Gala Bichir from a previous relationship with a mystery Spanish woman. He also dated Kate del Castillo.
In 2011, Demian Bichir began a relationship with Stefanie Sherk. They were together until Sherk’s death by suicide in 2019. Bichir and Sherk are said to have been married.

Bichir began his professional career as an actor in 1977, at the age of 14, having started acting at the age of 3. He had landed a minor role in the 1977 TV series Rina. At the age of 22, he moved to New York so that he could take a break from acting and learn English.
In the US, he took a job as a busboy at Rosa Mexicano, where he would make guacamole at customers' tables. Soon he moved to Los Angeles and for the next four years auditioned for roles. But the lack of success tempted him to move back to Mexico for acting jobs.
After a gap of a few years, the young actor again began to land roles in Vivir enamorada (1982), Choices of the Heart (1983), El rincón de los prodigios (1988), and in the films The Penitent (1988), Rojo Amanecer (1989).
In the 1990’s he starred in films Nobody Will Speak of Us When We're Dead (1995), Perdita Durango (1997), Sexo, pudor y lágrimas (1999) and in the series Lazos de Amor (1995), Nada personal (1996).
After success in his homeland, Bichir once again tried his luck in Hollywood. This time he was successful. Since 2000, Demian Bichir has portrayed roles in the TV series Weeds (2008), The Bridge (2013-2014), and Grand Hotel (2019).
He has also landed regular roles in Hollywood movies including Gimme the Power (2000), American Visa (2007), A Better Life (2011), Savages (2012), Machete Kills (2013), The Hateful Eight (2015), Alien: Covenant (2017), The Nun (2018).
Other movies including Chaos Walking (2019), Grudge (2020), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2020) are soon to be released.
On the set of Weeds, Demian Bichir has starred alongside Allie Grant, Romany Malco, Elizabeth Perkins, and Justin Kirk.
