While still a student at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School she won the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year Award. Her first role was in a 2016 episode of Call the Midwife followed by an appearance in the BBC miniseries Les Misérables (2018).

In 2019 Erin Doherty landed the role of young Princess Anne in the third season of the Netflix drama The Crown. This is her breakthrough role.
