Greg Hardy – Career

Before fame

While at the University of Mississippi, Greg Hardy played for the University’s football team. He played against Mississippi State University, and the University of Florida, among others. As a junior, he underwent foot surgery to repair a broken bone in his right foot which made him miss his first three games.

In January 2009, Hardy underwent a second surgery on the same foot. The same year in July, he and teammate  Dexter McCluster were involved in a car accident and was put back in a walking cast.

Sports Illustrated in April 2009 named him the top prospect for the 2010 NFL Draft. But injuries, poor production, and an unimpressive combine caused him to be chosen by the Carolina Panthers in the sixth round (175th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

With the teams

Hardy played with the Carolina Panthers from 2010 to 2015. In March 2015, Carolina Panthers decided not to re-sign Greg Hardy despite requests from players and coaches.

On March 18, 2015, he signed a one-year and  $11.3 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent. But due to violating the NFL Personal Conduct Policy, Hardy was suspended for the first 10 games of the 2015 season, which was later reduced to 4.

His first game showed his strong performance but his production soon dropped. Moreover, his inappropriate tweets put him in hot water. As a result, Dallas Cowboys decided not to re-sign him as he was a bad influence on the younger players on the team.

In 2017, Greg Hardy participated in The Spring League, and in January 2018, he was with the Richmond Roughriders.

In mixed martial arts

Greg Hardy announced in October 2016 his launch of an MMA career as an amateur. His MMA first debut was on November 4, 2017, against Joe Hawkins, which Hardy won. In the following games, he defeated Kenneth Woods and Ryan Chester.

His debut was at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series in June 2018 against Austen Lane. His victory secured him a contract with the UFC. He has fought against Rasheem Jones, Allen Crowder, and Dmitrii Smoliakov.

Hardy’s fight against Allen Crowder was lost via disqualification. He had hit  Crowder with his knee while Crowder was down on the ground, which is illegal in MMA.

Greg Hardy – Assault, Arrest

On May 13, 2014, Hardy was arrested for assaulting and threatening his ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder. He was alleged to have assaulted his (now ex) girlfriend by grabbing her, throwing her into furniture, strangling her, and threatening to kill her.

He was found guilty and sentenced to a 60-day jail sentence and 18 months probation. When he appealed the decision, requesting a jury trial the victim failed to appear in court to testify. Due to this, charges were dropped citing their inability to locate the victim and "reliable information" that the two parties had reached a civil settlement.

On November 5, 2015, the domestic violence charges against Greg Hardy were expunged from his record. Deadspin released dozens of police photographs of Hardy's ex-girlfriend's injuries the following day. On September 26, 2016, he was arrested for cocaine possession in Dallas, Texas.

His spot on a card featuring  Rachael Ostovich, a recent domestic violence victim also stirred controversy.
