Greta Gerwig’s birth took place on August 4, 1983, in Sacramento, California, USA. She was born as Greta Celeste Gerwig to mother Christine Gerwig, an Ob-Gyn nurse, and father Gordon Gerwig, who worked in finance.
She is not the only child of her parents and has two siblings – an older brother, who is now a landscape architect, and a sister, who works as a manager at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Early Career
Gerwig wanted to pursue a career as a playwright. But as she was not admitted to playwriting MFA programs, she turned to acting. During this time, she worked with Joe Swanberg in co-writing and co-directing Hannah Takes the Stairs (2007) and Nights and Weekends (2008).
In 2010, Greta Gerwig starred in Greenberg, followed by an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and an appearance in the 2012 film To Rome with Love. Finally, in 2012, she co-wrote Frances Ha with Noah Baumbach, in which she played the title role. This role gave her mainstream attention.
