Hilarie Burton is an actress, producer by profession, and American by nationality. She is well known for hosting Total Request Live and starring as Peyton Sawyer in One Tree Hill and Sara Ellis in White Collar.

Hilarie Burton’s birth took place on July 1, 1982, in Sterling, Virginia, USA. She was born Hilarie Ross Burton to her father Bill Burton, an antique collector, and her mother Lisa Burton, a real estate agent.

She is not the only child of her parents and has 3 siblings – younger brothers Billy Burton, Johnny Burton, and Conrad Burton.

For education, she attended Park View High School, graduating in 2000. There, she was a student council treasurer in her sophomore year, vice president her junior year, and in her senior year, Burton was a captain of the cheerleading squad, student council president, and was voted the homecoming queen.

For her further education, Hilarie Burton went on to study at New York University and Fordham University. Her ethnicity is English, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, remote French from her father's side, and Dutch from her mother's side.

Hilarie Burton began dating actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan in 2009. She and her boyfriend welcomed two children – a son, Augustus "Gus" Morgan (born March 2010), and a daughter, George Virginia Morgan (born February 2018). Burton also revealed that she had a series of miscarriages between the birth of her two children.

The couple married on October 5, 2019, after 10 years of dating. Burton had been first married to Ian Prange. 

As of 2020, Burton and her husband are living a blissful marriage without news of extramarital affairs or divorce.

Early Career

As a budding actress, Hilarie Burton’s big break came while working as a VJ for MTV's Total Request Live (TRL). She landed the opportunity to present at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards and eventually went on to land a role in the teen drama series Dawson's Creek (2002).

Just a year later, in 2003, Burton was cast in WB’s drama series One Tree Hill as Peyton Sawyer, which is considered her breakout role.

Since then, Hilarie Burton has starred in films Our Very Own (2005), Solstice (2007), The Secret Life of Bees (2008), and Bloodworth (2010).

In TV series, Burton has had roles in White Collar (2010-2013) as Sara Ellis, Grey's Anatomy (2013) as Dr. Lauren Boswell, Extant (2015) as Anna Schaefer, Lethal Weapon (2016-2017) as Karen Palmer, among numerous others. 

Moreover, she has had an appearance in Jack's Mannequin’s music video for the single The Mixed Tape.

Hilarie Burton – Sexual Assault

Amid the October 2017 Harvey Weinstein scandal, Burton retweeted a video clip from TRL Uncensored. The video showed her interview in 2003, recalling how actor Ben Affleck "wraps his arm around me, and comes over and tweaks my left boob". Shortly afterward, Affleck apologized via Twitter, “I acted inappropriately toward Ms. Burton, and I sincerely apologize." 

However, when Affleck addressed the issue on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in November 2017, he replied that he “I don't remember it” but “absolutely apologize for it.”

The same month, Hilarie Burton spoke on sexual assault charges against One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn by the female crew, alleging that she had also been sexually harassed by Schwahn.
