This was followed by minor roles in the films Management (2009), Battle: Los Angeles (2011), Frankenweenie (2012), and appearances in the TV series CSI: Miami (2004), Bones (2007), The Shield (2008), Prison Break (2008) as Roland Glenn, 24 (2010), among others.

Although his work in Prison Break gained him diverse roles in the future, James Hiroyuki Liao’s breakthrough came in the year 2013 with the role of Jay Lee in the police crime drama Unforgettable. He appeared in 34 episodes of the show, from 2013 to 2016.
