Who is Jerome Flynn?

Jerome Flynn is an actor, singer by profession, and British by nationality. He is best known for portraying Paddy Garvey in Soldier Soldier, Ser Bronn in Game of Thrones, and Bennet Drake in Ripper Street.

Jerome Flynn – Age, Parents, Siblings

Jerome Flynn’s birth took place on 16 March 1963 in Bromley, England. He was born Jerome Patrick Flynn to his father Fern Flynn, a drama teacher, and his mother Eric Flynn, an actor, and singer. His parents later divorced.

Through his father’s subsequent marriage, he has a half-sister, Lillie Flynn, and a half-brother, Johnny Flynn, who is now a musician and actor. He also has two siblings, sister Kerry Flynn and brother, Daniel Flynn, who is now an actor.

Education, Ethnicity

For education, Jerome Flynn attended Wilderness School where he was an excellent rugby player and was not an academic student. His interest in acting started in school plays. At the age of 17, he stopped his English A Level and took a year off. And at the age of 18, he joined the Central School of Speech and Drama where he completed 3 years of acting course.

His ethnicity is Irish and English.

Jerome Flynn – Girlfriend, Wife, Children, Divorce

Flynn dated longtime girlfriend Anna Jacobs in the 1990s for almost eight years. They were pregnant with twins but Jacobs had miscarried.

Jerome Flynn was in a relationship with Game of Thrones co-star Lena Headey. But their relationship ended on bad terms before March 2014. As a result, the ex-couple are kept apart on set. He has never married and is sans wife and children.

Before fame

Flynn started his career in 1985. The next year in 1986, he landed a role in London's Burning and had a minor role in The Fear. From 1992 to 1994, he starred in six episodes of Between The Lines followed by guest appearances in Bergerac (1990), Casualty (1991), and Boon (1991).

Films, Series

Finally, in 1991, Jerome Flynn landed his breakthrough role. He was cast as Patrick "Paddy" Garvey in Soldier Soldier. There he and his co-star performed Unchained Melody, which became an instant hit. As people were looking to buy the song, record producer Simon Cowell persuaded the duo to record the music and release it as a single.

The single reached number one in the UK chart in 1995 and stayed there for 7 weeks and sold more than 1.9 million copies. The single was named a best-selling single of the year and won 1996’s Music Week Awards. Between 1995 and 1996, the duo released two singles and also produced two number-one albums.

After Soldier Soldier ended in 1997, he went on to star in Between the Lines (1992), and Badger (1999-2000). After almost 10 year gap from acting, Flynn returned to TV as Bronn in Game of Thrones in 2011 and secured a role in Ripper Street (2012-2016). 

In movies, he has starred in A Summer Story (1988), Edward II (1991), Best (2000), Loving Vincent (2017), and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), among others.
