Lynn Collins’ birth took place on May 16, 1977, in Houston, Texas, USA. Her birth name is Viola Lynn Collins, her mother’s name is Patricia Lynn Campbell and her father’s name is Phillip Dean Collins. Both her parents were trained in martial arts.
Although she is the only child of her parents, she does have four half-siblings. From her father’s first marriage, her older half-siblings are musician Simon Collins and actress Joely Collins while from her father’s third marriage, she is an older sister of two half-brothers.
When she was four years old, the family moved to Singapore where they lived for six years, with summers spent in Japan as her parents were getting their fourth fifth, and sixth Dan in Shitaru, Okinawa-style karate. They then relocated to Houston.

Since starting her professional career in 1999, Collins landed her debut screen role the same year- as Virginia Hayes in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. This was followed by appearances in the TV series The Education of Max Bickford (2001), Push, Nevada (2002), Haunted (2002), and the films Down with Love (2003), 50 First Dates (2004), 12 Going on 30 (2004), etc.
Lynn Collins landed the role of Portia in the 2004 film The Merchant of Venice, replacing Cate Blanchett who had opted out due to pregnancy. This role furthered her profile.
