Who is Matt Baker?

Matt Baker is a British TV host and actor. Since the start of his career in 1999 with the children’s Television Program, Blue Peter, he has simply flourished in his career.

Matt Baker was born on 23 December 1977 in Easington, County Durham, England. His full name/birth name is Matthew James Baker, his mother's name is Janice Baker and his father's name is Mike Baker. His parents used to run a newsagent's shop and also had a small farm.

Baker grew up along with his sibling, a sister named Ruby Baker. He also has two half-sisters.

For his education, Matt Baker joined Easington Village School and later Belmont Comprehensive School. During his days there, he was a gymnast and sports acrobatics champion but had to give it all up because he was diagnosed with anemia at the age of 14. So he took on other activities like sheepdog trials and pole vaulting.

Later on, he joined Durham Sixth Form Centre where he took A-levels in Drama, Biology, and Sports Science. He also attended Queen Margaret University.

Matt Baker – Girlfriend, Wife, Children, Divorce

Baker is a happily married man. His wife’s name is Nicola Mooney, a physiotherapist. They had met when he was performing in the disco show at Pier 39 in Cleethorpes in the late 1990s. After dating for some time, they married in Teesdale on July 16, 2004.

Matt Baker and Nicola Mooney have two children together, son Luke Baker (born 2007) and daughter Molly Baker (born 2009). The family currently resides in Hertfordshire and there are no rumors of divorce surrounding the pair.

Matt Baker – Career

Early Days

At his drama school, he appeared in the school production of Grease. While he was at Queen Margaret University, he came to know Blue Peter, a children’s TV program that was looking for a new presenter. Baker was asked to come to London for an interview and was selected as the new presenter of the show. His first appearance was on 25 June 1999.

Matt Baker also went on to present TV and radio shows such as Countryfile Summer Diaries, Open Country, Animal Rescue Squad, Animal Rescue Squad International, Animal Rescue Live, Secret Britain (August 2010), One Man and His Dog, The One Show (May to August 2010), City Hospital, Crufts, The Gift (2015), Big Blue Live (2015), Wild Alaska Live (July 2017).

In 2010, Matt Baker entered the eighth series of Strictly Come Dancing as a participant with dance partner Aliona Vilani, a professional ballroom dancer. They finished as runners-up. In 2011, they partnered up once again to participate in the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour.

In May 2018, Baker co-hosted the Royal Wedding Watch of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. Matt Baker is also an actor. He appeared in Cutting It  (a BBC drama series), Doctor Who, The Queen's Handbag, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (2008).
