Who is Max Landis?

Max Landis is a screenwriter, filmmaker by profession, and American by nationality. He is the son of director John Landis and historian Deborah Nadoolman Landis and is known for writing Chronicle, American Ultra, Victor Frankenstein, and Bright, among others.

Max Landis’ birth took place on August 3, 1985, in Beverly Hills, California, USA. He was born to his father John Landis, a director, and his mother Deborah Nadoolman Landis, an author, professor, historian, and costume designer.

He is not the only child of his parents and has a sibling- an older sister named Rachel Landis. His grandmother Shirley Levine Landis was an actress and grandfather Marshall Landis was an Interior designer.

Education, Ethnicity

For education, he attended Beverly Hills High School but left for a therapeutic boarding school in Connecticut. Landis later returned to Beverly Hills High School and graduated from the same. He later enrolled at the University of Miami.

His ethnicity is Ashkenazi-Jewish.

Max Landis is currently dating actress Ani Easton Baker. Otherwise, he is unmarried, sans wife, and children, and as he has never married, divorce is out of context. 

Before 2019 his love life was well hidden. But in June 2019 several women came out to accuse him of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, most of whom were his ex-girlfriends and women he had hooked up with.

Early Career

Landis had brief appearances in his father's films The Stupids (1996), Blues Brothers 2000 (1998), and Burke and Hare (2010). At the age of 16, he started writing, and at the age of 18, he was able to sell his first script.

Over the years Max Landis has worked as a writer in Chronicle (2012), American Ultra (2015), Victor Frankenstein (2015), Mr. Right (2015), as a writer and producer in Mr. Right (2015), Bright (2017), and as a writer and director in Me Him Her (2015).

Of TV series, he has written Masters of Horror (2005), Fear Itself (2009), executively produced Channel Zero (2016-2017), and as a writer and Executive producer of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (2016-2017).

Moreover, Max Landis has directed the music video for Ariana Grande’s One Last Time and a few web series as well as short films.

Landis had been criticized for several statements he has made about women. In a 2013 interview, Max Landis said, “the most f***** up thing was that I cheated on a girl who I also gave a crippling social anxiety, self-loathing, body dysmorphia, eating disorder too." Later he claimed that he had been drunk during the interview.

In December 2017, former co-worker Anna Akana accused him of sexual assault and in June 2019 he was accused of emotional abuse, and sexual misconduct by 8 women including his former girlfriend Whitney Moore.
