Peter Mensah’s birth took place on 27 August 1959 in Chiraa, Brong Ahafo Region, Ghana. His academic father Peter Osei Mensah Sr. worked as an architect and engineer while his mother’s identity, who worked as a writer, remains unknown.
He is not the only child of his parents and has two younger siblings – both sisters. The family moved to Hertfordshire, England when they were young and grew up in St. Albans, England, just north of London.

After starting his career in acting, his debut screen role was in an episode of the TV series Nancy Drew as Simon.
This was followed by roles in the films Striking Poses (1998), Blue Murder (2001), Cypher (2002), Hidalgo (2004), Avatar (2009), etc. He also appeared as guest characters in the episodes of the TV series La Femme Nikita (1998), A Perfect Son (2000), Star Trek: Enterprise (2005), and 300 (2006), among others.
Finally, in 2010, Peter Mensah was cast as Oenomaus in the TV series Spartacus. He played the character for a total of 23 episodes, from 2010 to 2013, and is considered his breakthrough work.
