Scott Michael Foster’s birth took place on March 4, 1985, in Winfield, Illinois, USA. He was born to his photographer, videographer, and computer “guy” father, Michael C. Foster, who worked for IBM, and his mother, Tammy Foster. 

He is not the only child of his parents and has two siblings – older sisters Shelley Foster and Stacey Bone. He is also an uncle to six nephews and nieces.

He was raised in Chicago and Dallas, Texas. For education, Scott Michael Foster attended Briarhill Middle School and Edward S. Marcus High School, graduating in 2003. He went on to study at Collin County Community College but dropped out after a semester to pursue a career in acting.

Foster’s interest in acting started when he was still in elementary school, where he was involved in theater all the way through high school. He also plays guitar and is the lead singer of the indie rock band Siren's Eye. They released their first EP titled Red Room via iTunes on 15 December 2009. 

In his early career as an actor, Scott Michael Foster landed minor roles in the film The Horrible Flowers (2005) and in an episode of The Game (2007), Women's Murder Club (2007). 

Finally, in 2007, he landed the main role of Captain John Paul "Cappie" Jones in the comedy-drama TV series Greek. He portrayed the character for a total of 74 episodes from 2007 to 2011.
