Growing up Brown wanted to pursue a career as a doctor- a heart surgeon specifically. However, while he was in his teens, he was cast in the school’s production of the musical West Side Story. His interest as an actor grew eventually as he continued to participate in numerous high school musical productions. After high school, he worked in two national tours of musical theater productions.

Films, TV Series

After appearing in several short films, Shaun J. Brown landed his debut screen role as Irving Grossman in a 2011 episode of the TV series Bar Karma. 

This was followed by appearances in the films Welcome to Harlem (2012), Tell Me How I Die (2016), Female Fight Squad (2016), Wilson (2017), among others, and in episodes of the TV series Switched at Birth (2012), The First Family (2013), True Blood (2013), The Newsroom (2013), Rizzoli & Isles (2013), Glee (2014), Fresh Off the Boat (2015), School of Rock (2016), Party Girl (2016), among others.

Finally, he was cast as Mason in the TV series The Great Indoors. Brown appeared in 22 episodes of the TV series, from 2016 to 2017, and is considered his breakthrough role
