Tiffany Haddish – Age, Parents, Siblings

The life of Tiffany Haddish started with her birth on December 3, 1979, in Los Angeles, California, USA. She was born Tiffany Sara Cornilia Haddish to father Tsihaye Reda Haddish and mother Leola Haddish. Her father was from Eritrea, Africa, and is descended from Ethiopian Jews while her mother is of African-American descent.

Tiffany Haddish’s father walked out on her and her mother when she was very small. Her mother remarried, making Haddish an older sister to two half-sisters (Jasmine English, Tuesday English) and two half-brothers (Justin English).

Education, Ethnicity

Tiffany Haddish studied at George Ellery Hale Middle School and later at the El Camino Real High School, where she was also a school mascot. Despite her award-winning participation in drama competitions, she got in trouble in school. In 1997, her social worker gave her a choice to either goes to psychiatric therapy or to a  Laugh Factory Comedy Camp, she opted for the latter.

Haddish has said that her mentors include Richard Pryor, Dane Cook, Charles Fleischer, and the Wayans brothers.

Her ethnicity includes Ethiopian-Jew and African-American.

Tiffany Haddish – Mother’s accident, Sexual assault

But tragedy struck her life again. When Tiffany Haddish was 13 years old, her mother was in a car accident. It was her stepfather who had tampered with the brakes with the intent to harm the whole family, the fact he had confessed over family dinner.

Luckily the kids had remained at home. As a result, her mother sustained a brain injury and was soon diagnosed with schizophrenia. 

Due to poor health, Tiffany Haddish's mother could not take care of her and her half-siblings. They all were placed into foster care and were eventually raised by their grandmother. In an interview with National Public Radio in 2017, she shared that her mother’s medical condition led her to a career in comedy,

“You know, when you have a brain injury it’s very hard, and especially if before the injury you were a very intellectual, intelligent person …and then you can’t pull your words anymore and you get frustrated. And she would hit and stuff, and … if I could make her laugh then I probably [wouldn’t] get hit”

In 2018, she revealed her own experience of her life- sexual assault by a police cadet. She also added that due to the horrific incident, she developed an aggressive habit of putting an aggressive front when coming to avoiding unwanted advances from men.

Tiffany Haddish – Husband, Children, Physical abuse, Divorce, Boyfriend

Haddish has been married and divorced twice and to the same man, William Stewart. In fact, Stewart, who is a detective, was the one who tracked down now ex-wife’s estranged father so that he could walk her down the aisle when they married. 

Their marriage continued from 8 August 2008 to 2011. They married and divorced again in 2013 and never had any children together.

In her memoir, The Last Black Unicorn, Tiffany Haddish said that her ex-husband was physically abusive during their marriage which resulted in a miscarriage. Stewart did deny the claims. 

However, court documents showed that she had actually filed a restraining order against him after reporting domestic abuse in 2010 and 2011. The report in 2011 was accompanied by a black eye and bruises all over her body.

In April 2020, rapper Stallionaires Pooch, whose real name is L. Murphy, claimed to TMZ that he is dating Tiffany Haddish. Haddish, on the other hand, revealed that they have gone out for only one dinner which does not count as dating.

Tiffany Haddish – Career

Early struggles

Tiffany Haddish had rough days when she first started out as a young comedian. While in Los Angeles, in her 20s, she once had become homeless and lived in her car and would park in Beverly Hills. Fortunately, she met Kevin Hart and befriended him. 

Hart then lent her $300 to get off the street and get a motel room. She took odd jobs such as customer service for Alaska Airlines to keep herself afloat.

Breakthrough and thereafter

Haddish’s career breakthrough came with the comedy competition Bill Bellamy's Who's Got Jokes? In 2005. Since then she has portrayed numerous supporting characters in School Dance (2014), Keanu (2016) alongside Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, and Mad Families (2016), among several others.

In 2017, she starred as Dina in the movie Girls Trip alongside Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, and Regina Hall. Other supporting actors in the film include Kofi Siriboe, Larenz Tate, Kate Walsh, Deborah Ayorinde, and Sunny Hostin. 

The next year in 2018, Tiffany Haddish starred in Uncle Drew, Nobody's Fool, and Night School with Anne Winters, Bresha Webb, Ben Schwartz, Keith David, and Jeff Rose. In 2019 she is set to star in Limited Partners, The Secret Life of Pets 2, and The Kitchen. 

She has also portrayed roles in series as well including Real Husbands of Hollywood (2013-2014), If Loving You Is Wrong (2014-2015), The Carmichael Show (2015-2017), Legends of Chamberlain Heights (2016-2017), The Last O.G. (2018- present).
