Early Career

While trying out for auditions, Tika Sumpter worked as a waitress. Along with her modeling career, she appeared in commercials for Hewlett-Packard and Liz Claiborne's Curve fragrances. Finally, in 2004, she was selected to co-host the N network series Best Friend's Date. 

Finally, in 2005, Sumpter landed her breakthrough role as Layla Williamson in One Life to Live.

Since landing her breakthrough role, Tika Sumpter has had appearances in Gossip Girl (2011), The Game (2011-2012), The Haves and the Have Nots (2013-2021), Final Space (2018-2021), and Mixed-ish (2019-2021) as Alicia, among others.
