Celebrity hacks for getting a great night’s sleep

Last Modified: 9th Sep

Sleep is an essential part of daily life, providing the body and mind with the space they need to rest and recuperate every night.

When it comes to anyone who mixes in celebrity circles, sleep becomes even more important given the workload many of them undertake.

Long working hours, late nights, and excessive travel are among a plethora of elements that can impact a celebrity’s ability to get the requisite amount of sleep.

With that in mind, we look at some of the clever hacks used by celebrities to ensure they maintain a healthy sleep cycle throughout the year.

Sophia Bush

A recent study by Betway discovered that participants who wore a sleep mask in bed spent an average of just 14 minutes awake at night.

American actress Sophia Bush wears a sleep mask every night after discovering she is extremely sensitive to natural and blue light.

By blocking out light with a mask, Bush has trained her brain into identifying when sleep should be happening, thus ensuring she suffers minimal disruption when she is in bed.

Rosario Dawson

The talented 43-year-old is another member of the acting fraternity who undertakes a bedtime routine to boost her chances of sleeping well.

She eats a spoonful of raw honey, which does not mess with the digestive tract and has been proven to promote better sleep in children with coughs.

Dawson claims that honey acts as brain food while her body is repairing itself. Given her hard-working ethos, her pre-sleep tactic appears to be paying dividends.

Bill Gates

As one of the richest people in the world, Microsoft founder Bill Gates is keen to do whatever he can to enjoy the time he spends on this planet.

That includes getting great quality sleep, which he facilities by spending at least an hour reading a book before bedtime.

Gates says he is unable to function properly unless he gets at least seven hours – a timescale that numerous studies say is the minimum amount of sleep adults need each night.

Jeff Bezos

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is another individual who acknowledges the role sleep plays in maintaining our general health and well-being.

The 59-year-old sticks to a structured sleep routine of eight hours per night by going to bed and getting up at the same time each day.

Establishing and sticking to a routine has been proven to aid sleep and boost productivity, factors that have undoubtedly benefited Bezos during his career.

Arianna Huffington

Becoming the richest man or woman in the cemetery benefits no one, yet many people are guilty of overworking during their lives.

That is certainly the case where Arianna Huffington is concerned, who once collapsed through exhaustion and woke up in a pool of her own blood.

She now sticks to a sleep routine that involves disconnecting herself from digital devices such as smartphones and keeping her bedroom as a sanctuary for rest and recovery.
