Joshua Jackson’s opinion on affairs: can be forgiven

Last Modified: 9th Sep

Actor Joshua Jackson believes extramarital affairs shouldn’t end relationships or marriages and can be forgiven.

While speaking to the Sunday Times, the Dawson’s Creek star, confessed, “I think an affair can be forgiven.”

He continued, “We’re all grownups. No one wants to be cheated on and there is a massive repair to be done.”

Jackson, who has been married to 36-year-old Jodie Turner-Smith for more than three years, added that affairs “aren’t about the partner” or “purely about the sex” but is a violation that runs “deeper.”

The 44-year-old currently stars in two shows exploring infidelity - Showtime’s “The Affair” and “Fatal Attraction.”

He was in a relationship with fellow actress Diane Kruger for ten years before breaking up in 2016 as he did not want to get married or have kids.

The irony is that he currently shares a three-year-old daughter with Turner-Smith.

He told the outlet, “I’m old enough to be able to do this,” adding that he settled “partially [because of] age” and also “about finding somebody in the right moment of life.”

The Canadian actor explained, “If [Turner-Smith and I] had met five years earlier we probably would have had a torrid affair. But all the rest of this stuff, I was just not ready. I didn’t think I ever wanted to get married.”

The now-married couple met in 2018 through mutual friends – although they intended to keep their relationship “casual.”

In July 2021, Queen & Slim confirmed that she was the one who initially proposed to Jackson. It was later revealed that her now husband also got down on one knee.

The pair welcomed daughter Janie in April 2020, less than a year after they tied the knot.

Jackson gushed about his daughter and fatherhood, “Now, we have this beautiful baby who is literally the manifestation of that love. It is impossible for me to look into the face of my child without feeling love for my wife. [Fatherhood] has changed me in every single possible way.”
