‘Just one of those phases’: Cody Simpson on romance with Miley Cyrus

Last Modified: 9th Sep

Cody Simpson has discussed his past romance with Miley Cyrus, his longtime friend turned lover, calling the relationship, “Just one of those phases.”

During an interview with Australia’s 60 Minutes, he described his August breakup as, “Everything ended fairly amicably.”

The 24-year-old singer shared, “It was just one of those phases, I guess. You go through [it] and you learn a lot from it.”

Simpson also went on to explained how they had transitioned from friends to lovers.

“I’d known her for a long time at that point. We went from kind of being good friends to just having a lot of the same friends, to being together for a while” he said.

Cyrus too had addressed her breakup with Simpson in an Instagram Live, “Two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age. We’ve been friends for ten years and we’re going to continue to be friends, so just don’t make it something that it is not.”

Miley Cyrus, 28, was first romantically linked to Simpson in October 2019 after a series of relationships. Recently, from August to September 2019, she dated The Hills: New Beginnings star Kaitlynn Carter, who in turn had just annulled her marriage to Brody Jenner.

The Hannah Montana star had also divorced her husband Liam Hemsworth. The pair who had dated on and off for a decade had married in December 2019 but separated in August 2019. After Hemsworth had filed for divorce 11 days later, their divorce was finalized on January 28, 2020. Hemsworth had shared that he had learned of the separation through the media and not Cyrus herself.

Cody Simpson has been in several high-profile relationships as well. He dated supermodel Gigi Hadid for about two years before breaking up in 2015. He was linked to Kylie Jenner and Bella Thorne in 2011.
