‘New Girl’ Jameela Jamil calls surviving suicide attempt an ‘extraordinary gift’

Actress and activist Jameela Jamil has called her suicide attempt, which she survived, “the most extraordinary gift.”

The 34-year-old British star took to Instagram on Thursday in honor of World Suicide Prevention Day sharing a powerful passage about attempting to take her life seven years ago.

Jamil wrote, “Surviving suicide has been the most extraordinary gift to me in being able to still be here and remind the people I love that sometimes it’s just a particularly overwhelming hour, day, week, or month. And that it can and normally will pass, and that with even small incremental changes and reaching out to even just one person for help, life really can get better.”

“Please hang on,” she added.

She then followed the said post with a sweet photo of herself with her singer/songwriter boyfriend James Blake, their pooch, and the words “I have everything I need” at the bottom of the pic. “Glad I stuck around in the end. Got to meet my two Favourite lads.” she captioned the post.

Last year, on Twitter, The Good Place and New Girl star revealed her suicide, “Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay. This month, six years ago, I tried to take my own life. I’m so lucky that I survived, and went on to use EMDR to treat my severe PTSD.”
