John Singleton, director of "Boyz n the Hood" dead after stroke

John Singleton died on Monday, April 29, 2019. He was 51. It was reported by Fox 4 News and the news source claimed that his death was reported to them by Singleton’s family.

While his representatives revealed that  Singleton is alive and still on life support, it was later confirmed that he had passed away.

Singleton changed Hollywood forever in 1991 with the film Boyz n the Hood with his directional and writing skills. Among all his work, he is best known for directing Poetic Justice (1993), Shaft (2000), 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), and the TV series Snowfall, which was renewed last year.

John Singleton who was the youngest and the first black director nominated for an Oscar was placed in a medically-induced coma after suffering a stroke on the 17th of April. He is survived by his four children, mother, and girlfriend.

Days after he was hospitalized and was reported to be in ICU, his representative stated that Singleton was in a medically induced coma, and on life support,

“John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care. We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends and colleagues.”

Soon after the reports of the stroke, the Singleton Family released a statement,

"On Wednesday, April 17th our beloved son/father, John Singleton, suffered a stroke while at the hospital. John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care. We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends, and colleagues. Thank you, The Singleton Family.”

However, days before his daughter Cleopatra had claimed that her father is not in a  coma and is getting better by the day, 

 “My father is not in a coma. [Doctors] do not have a concrete diagnosis, [but] my dad is progressing every day. My father is breathing on his own. He is only medically sedated to keep his blood pressure low and allow the vessels in his brain to heal.”

There were also reports that his family is at odds over John Singleton’s health and $35 million estates.
