‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ and ‘Riverdale’ actor Luke Perry died days after hospitalization following 'massive' stroke

Riverdale and Beverly Hills, 90210 actor Luke Perry has passed away. He was 52.

PEOPLE confirmed his death on March 4, 2019. He was hospitalized on Feb. 27 after an emergency call was made from his Sherman Oaks home. TMZ had reported that Perry was in a medically induced coma but his representative Arnold Robinson denied the claim. Robinson had added that the 52-year-old actor is merely sedated in hopes of giving his brain the chance to recover from stroke trauma and is under observation.

Luke Perry had remained under observation for five days. But he never made it back home. He passed away on Monday.

Perry’s representative  released a statement,

“Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke. He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. 

The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

Shannen Doherty expresses

Shannen Doherty who played Perry’s love interest in Beverly Hills, 90210 had commented on his health a day before his death was confirmed. On an appearance at The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation's Compassion Project Gala in Los Angeles, she was asked if she had any good wishes for Luke Perry. She had told the reporter,

"I do. I can't talk about it here because I will literally start crying, but I love him and he knows I love him. I'm in contact. It's Luke, and he's my Dylan. Everybody just keep positive, wonderful thoughts."

Current Roles

Luke Perry currently stars in the CW series Riverdale as Fred Andrews. But the older generation knew him as Dylan McKay on the TV series Beverly Hills, 90210 which ran from 1990 to 2000.

He also had a role in the upcoming movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood alongside Damon Herriman, Julia Butters, Spencer Garrett, Keith Jefferson, Damian Lewis, Tim Roth, Lena Dunham, Austin Butler, Frank Grillo, and Rumer Willis.

Rebooted series

The same day Perry was rushed to the hospital, Fox announced their plans to reboot the teen drama series Beverly Hills, 90210. Original actors Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Tori Spelling, and Ian Ziering did reprise the role but Perry had not due to his commitment to Riverdale.

Luke Perry was born on October 11, 1966, in Mansfield, Ohio, U.S.A. as Coy Luther Perry III. His father Coy Luther Perry Jr. worked as a steelworker while his mother Ann Bennett was a homemaker. He was raised along with his two sisters Amy Peery, and Emily Bennett, and a brother Thomas Perry in Fredericktown, Ohio.
