‘RHOP’ alum Mia Thornton reveals sexual assault – breaks down

Last Modified: 1st Jan

Reality TV star Mia Thornton recalled when she was sexually assaulted when she was younger. The Real Housewives of Potomac (RHOP) shared her horrible experience on the Sunday night’s episode of RHOP.

In the luncheon episode, Thornton’s co-star Karen Huger spoke on behalf of Promoting Awareness Victim Empowerment (PAVE), an organization that empowers rape victims. Meanwhile, the 39-year-old rushed to the bathroom in tears because the event “triggered” her.

After another co-star Ashley Darby went after her to the restroom, she told her, “It’s my coping mechanism to get the f–k out when s–t’s uncomfortable and, unfortunately, that day, I couldn’t get out. It’s just, like, ‘Why didn’t you just leave? Why did you put yourself in that situation?'”

Thornton also admitted she has mistakenly placed her anger on her friend Jacqueline Blake as she partially blames her for the sexual assault.

Thornton added, “I know I’m a f**ked up friend to her because of it, and it’s not fair to her. She didn’t know that was going to happen to me. She trusted her boyfriend.”

Blake, who has also appeared on RHOP, had “left” Thornton with her to be an assaulter. When she returned to check on Mia the day after the assault, she was “scared” and asked her, “Mia, what happened to you?”

She elaborated, “Because Jacqueline did leave me that night and because of the sequence of events that happened once she left, I think over the years I’ve wanted to forgive her … when I look back, I probably have always been a little meaner to her because of it.”

Thornton, who recently split from her estranged husband Gordon Thornton, condemned her own actions, “That doesn’t make it right. It’s just an emotional thing that I think a lot of people do. We don’t even realize it until we look back and see it.”

Darby, 35, had also revealed her own experiences with sexual assault. She disclosed it was “at the hands of a family member.”

“The saddest thing is to know that it’s happening now. It’s so prevalent. It is heartbreaking,” she said.

Robyn Dixon, also a RHOP star, shared the “experience” she had in her teen years. She added that she was “unable to give consent” and “didn’t really realize the severity” of what happened at the time.

Huger, 60, was one of the first women of RHOP fame to speak about sexual assault. In 2017 she revealed that she was raped at the age of 19 after a bad date.

“The fact that I survived is part of my reality and I’m hoping that message resonates with the viewers.,” she said at the time.
