Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs seen assaulting ex-Cassie Ventura in 2016 hotel surveillance video
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was recorded physically assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a hotel surveillance video.
In the 2016 video obtained by CNN, Diddy is seen grabbing, shoving, dragging, and kicking Cassie Ventura during an altercation.
The footage which is dated March 5, 2016, is compiled from multiple camera angles and occurred at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.
In the video Ventura - dressed in blue jeans and a large black hoodie and holding a suitcase and handbag - exits a hotel room and walks to a bank of elevators. Meanwhile, Diddy - holding a towel around his waist - runs down a hall after Ventura.
After catching up with her, the rapper, producer, and business mogul grabs her by the back of the neck and throws her to the floor. As his victim is on the ground, he turns to kick her and retrieves her belongings from the floor near the elevators.
As Ventura lies motionless, Diddy then kicks her again and drags her by her sweatshirt toward a room before walking away.
Ventura, who slowly gets herself up, gathers items from the floor and moves to the hallway wall near the elevators to pick up a phone.
Combs returns only moments later and shoves Ventura - which is seen in a mirror directly across the security camera. He then sits down on a chair, grabs an object (alleged to be a vase) off the table, and throws it at Ventura.
She turns toward an elevator door while Combs is seen walking toward Ventura. Someone appears to exit the elevator.
The assault matches the allegations made by Ventura in November 2023. The federal lawsuit, which also claimed she was raped in 2018 and suffered years of abuse at the hands of Combs, was settled just a day later for an undisclosed sum.
Douglas H. Wigdor, an attorney of Ventura, said, “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.”
A representative of InterContinental Hotels released a statement, “This hotel is no longer under IHG management, and we do not have any access to prior incident records or footage.”
According to CNN, Diddy had obtained the security camera footage from the hotel for $50,000.
Diddy, 54, and Ventura, 37, first met in 2005, when she was 19 years old, and began dating in 2007. The pair dated on and off for more than a decade before finally breaking up in October 2018.
In the November 2023 lawsuit, Ventura had cited the altercation as occurring “around March 2016.” It had alleged that Combs became “extremely intoxicated and punched Ms. Ventura in the face, giving her a black eye.”
After Combs fell asleep, attempted to leave the hotel room. However, Diddy woke up and followed her into the hallway where the altercation occurred.
“He grabbed at her, and then took glass vases in the hallway and threw them at her, causing glass to crash around them as she ran to the elevator to escape,” the lawsuit alleged.
She then claimed to have taken a cab to her apartment.
“Upon realizing that her running away would cause Mr. Combs to be even angrier with her, and completely stuck in his vicious cycle of abuse, Ms. Ventura returned to the hotel with the intention of apologizing for running away from her abuser. When she returned, hotel security staff urged her to get back into a cab and go to her apartment, suggesting that they had seen the security footage showing Mr. Combs beating Ms. Ventura and throwing glass at her in the hotel hallway,” the lawsuit claimed.
Comb’s attorney Ben Brafman said the day the 2023 lawsuit was filed, “Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations.”
Following the settlement of a lawsuit in 2023, he said, “A decision to settle a lawsuit, especially in 2023, is in no way an admission of wrongdoing. Mr. Combs‘ decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims. He is happy they got to a mutual settlement and wishes Ms. Ventura the best.”
Just weeks after settling the case with Cassie, he was charged with three other lawsuits from women claiming sexual assault by him.
One woman claimed that in the early 1990s, she and a friend of hers were raped by Diddy and singer Aaron Hall.
Another woman accused Diddy of gang raping her in 2003 when he was 34 and she was 17 years old.
Last month, in February, he was sued by Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, a former male employee, of sexual assault while he was working on the 2023 album The Love Album: Off the Grid.
Jones, who is a producer and videographer, claimed the abuse occurred repeatedly from September 2022 to November 2023. He also alleged that his former employer forced him to perform inappropriate acts with sex workers – with claims that he once woke up in bed with his boss – all drugged up.
Meanwhile, Diddy’s attorney Shawn Holley said that “Lil Rod is nothing more than a liar” and is seeking to secure the $30 million lawsuit.
Singer Aubrey O'Day has denounced the “money-run” justice system after the Diddy-Cassie lawsuit settlement was made public. Over the years the 39-year-old American singer had accused Diddy, full name Sean John Combs, of making unwanted sexual advances and being involved in shady business practices.
She had also accused the 54-year-old rapper of rape, sex trafficking, human trafficking, sexual battery, sexual assault, and gender-motivated violence, among others.
