Alexander Armstrong was born on 2 March 1970 in Rothbury, Northumberland, England. His full name/birth name is Alexander Henry Fenwick Armstrong. His father’s name is Henry Angus Armstrong and his mother’s name is Emma Virginia Peronnet Thompson-McCausland and is of Irish descent. Henry worked as a physician. 

He has two older siblings, Brother Dominic, and Sister Alice. From a young age, he learned to play piano and cello and later learned to play the oboe.

He received his education from Mowden Hall School, St Mary's Music School, and Durham School. He then attended Trinity College, Cambridge with scholarships in music and graduated from the same in 1992. Armstrong received an honorary doctorate from Northumbria University in December of the year 2015.

Alexander Armstrong married his longtime girlfriend Hannah Bronwen Snow on 27 August 2003. They have three sons together and Bronwen Snow is a determined mother. Their son’s names are Patrick Armstrong, Rex Armstrong, and Edward Armstrong.

Alexander Armstrong – Career

Early Days

After graduating from college, he moved to London along with some friends to pursue his career as an actor and a comedian. From 1997-2001, he co-starred alongside Ben Miller in the series Armstrong and Miller. They did separate to follow their solo career and in 2007, they renewed their partnership and starred in The Armstrong and Miller Show.

In 1998, Alexander Armstrong joined BBC Radio 4 and appeared in The Very World of Milton Jones and continued to do the same until 2001.

Over the years, he has appeared in several shows including Beast, Weak at the Top.

He has presented shows such as Best of the Worst, Don't Call Me Stupid, Have I Got News for You, When Were We Funniest?, Pointless, Alexander Armstrong's Very British Holiday, The Great British Weather, Prize Island, Rome's Invisible City, Land of the Midnight Sun,  Don't Ask Me Ask Britain, Teach My Pet To Do That, among others.

Music

After years of working in TV and comedy, he came back to his music. He formed his own cover band with himself as the vocalist, Harry the Piano played keyboards, Simon Bates played woodwind, Jeff Lardner played drums and Dave Swift played bass. The band went on tour from 19 September to 6 November 2013.

On 6 November 2015, Armstrong released his solo album A Year of Songs. The album was a success and topped the charts! He released his second album Upon a Different Shore on 28 October 2016. His third album In a Winter Light was released on 24 November 2017.
