Amy Matthews’ birth took place on May 19, 1973, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Her father’s name is Larry Matthews, and he served in the US Army, while the identity of her late mother is not known. Her parents had raised her in Robbinsdale, Minnesota alongside her two siblings- sisters Christine Matthews (also in the USA Army) and Sarah Matthews.

After graduation from high school, Amy Matthews went on to study at Boston University. She also took classes at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City.

Amy Matthews married her boyfriend Aaron Doering on 22 September 2011. With her husband, she has a child – a son Eli Doering (born October 19, 2011). Although neither party has confirmed divorce, it seems that they have in fact split.
She is currently dating Bill McCallum, an actor at Guthrie Theater. They seem to have been dating since before 2017 and often feature each other on social media.

Early Days
After completing courses at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Matthews returned to her hometown. There she worked with numerous theatres including Guthrie Theatre, the Minnesota Opera, Hey City Theatre, Mixed Blood Theatre, and Open Eye Figure Theatre. Alongside, she improved her DIY skills with The Family Handyman magazine and eventually became a licensed contractor and home improvement specialist with DIY Network.
