Bill Bailey is an English comedian, musician, singer, actor, TV presenter, radio presenter, and author. He is well known for his work Black Books, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News for You, and QI.

Bill Bailey was born on 13 January 1965 in Bath, Somerset, England. His birth name/full name is Mark Robert Bailey while Bill Bailey is his stage name. His father Reverend Joseph Bailey worked as a medical practitioner and his mother Madryn Bailey worked as a hospital ward sister. He is the only child of his parents and has no siblings.
He was educated at King Edward's School. Initially, he was excellent academically but as he reached age 15, his attention and interest turned to a school band called Behind Closed Doors. He studied A-level music and he passed with an A grade.
Bill Bailey also claimed to be good in sports back then. His nickname Bill was given by his music teacher, Linda Phipps, as he was able to play the song Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey so well on the guitar.

After graduation, he started to study at Westfield College of the University of London to earn an English degree but he dropped out. Rather, Bill is a classically trained musician and received an Associateship Diploma from the London College of Music.

Bill Bailey is a married man. His wife’s name is Kristin and the couple married in 1998. They have a son together named Dax Bailey who was born in 2003.

As he is a major Star Trek fan, most people assume that Bailey named his son Dax after a Star Trek character, which he has denied. He shared that the name Dax came from his friend who married an Indonesian man and later had a son that they named Dax. Bailey currently lives with his wife and son in Hammersmith, West London.

Early Days
Bailey’s career began as a comedian and toured the country performing acts. In 1994, he performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The next year in 1995, he went solo with the show Bill Bailey's Cosmic Jam which was broadcasted in 1997 by the name Bill Bailey Live.
He has also presented or appeared in shows such as Motormouth, The Happening, Packing Them In, The Stand Up Show, The Comedy Store, Pop Dogs, Space Cadets, Is it Bill Bailey?, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You, Wild Thing I Love You (15 October 2006), Bill Bailey's Birdwatching Bonanza (2009), etc.

TV Shows, Tours
He also hosted shows such as Baboons With Bill Bailey, Bill Bailey's Jungle Hero, Top Ten Prog Rock and also appeared in The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe (2011), and Grand Designs Live (4 May 2008).
In 2001, Bailey began his international tour with Bewilderness, his other tours being Qualmpeddler, Tinselworm, The Earl of Whimsy, Steampunk, Cosmic Jam, Dandelion Mind, Limboland, Larks In Transit. His tour Part Troll was also a huge success.
Being a talented pianist, and guitarist, and having perfect pitch, he has performed in numerous events such as the 2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Bill Bailey's Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra, Sonisphere Festival, and The Music House for Children.
Talking about his god-gifted perfect pitch, he had said:
"Perfect pitch ... occurs entirely at random in about one in every 10,000 of us, and I'm one of them. From as early as I can remember, I was able to pick out the pitch of things, not just instruments but washing machines, vacuum cleaners, dentists' drills."
Bill Bailey is a supporter of the Labour Party and also an animal rights activist.
