Who is Cecily Strong?

Cecily Strong is a comedian as well as an actress.

Cecily Strong was born on February 8, 1984, in Springfield, Illinois, U.S.A. Her birth name/full name is Cecily Legler Strong. Her mother is Penelope Strong and her father is William Strong, a former Associated Press bureau chief and now a now managing partner at a Chicago public relations firm. She has a sibling- a younger brother with whom she was raised in Oak Park, Illinois. But the name of her brother is not known.

Her parents are divorced. Growing up, Cecily Strong loved Saturday Night Live show. She used to reenact sketches with her friend and watch SNL commercials.

Education, Ethnicity

Strong attended Oak Park and River Forest High School later transferring to Chicago Academy for the Arts for her senior year. She graduated from the same in 2002. She went on to study acting at the California Institute of the Arts. From there, she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2006. 

Strong further went to study at Second City Conservatory and iO Chicago. Her ethnicity is English, Scottish, Italian, German, and Swiss.

Cecily Strong – Boyfriend, Husband, Children, Divorce

Cecily Strong started dating Michael Patrick O'Brien in 2013. O'Brien was her co-star as well. But as they loved the privacy, the couple did not update on their relationship. The fans were left wondering if they were still together or had broken up.

Finally, in 2016, her split with O'Brien was confirmed when she spoke about her “Italian love affair”. Strong shared “I was just in Rome. I’m having an Italian love affair. I first met him in Seville, Spain, before I broke my foot in Ibiza.”

Although she did not mention the name of her new boyfriend, she did let out some details. She revealed, “He’s studying to be a diplomat, which is nice. It’s all very new. So who knows if it’ll be a thing? But it’s still fun. He reminds me of Roberto Benigni in a way. We’ve talked every day for two months. I’m not rushing into anything, I promise. If I were too emotionally attached, I’d be too scared to talk about it.”

Like her previous relationship, facts about her relationship this the mystery boyfriend went stale. In March 2020 she revealed that her boyfriend Jack tested positive for Covid-19. The couple had met at a Christmas party in 2019.

Also, she has never married and is sans a husband and children. As she has never married, divorce is out of context.

Cecily Strong – Career

SNL and acting

While at the Second City Conservatory and iO Chicago, she had regular performances. She also performed at the Chicago Sketch Fest, Chicago Just for Laughs,  Edinburgh Fringe Festival,  Goodman Theater, Bailiwick Theater, etc.

On September 15, 2012, Cecily Strong was featured as a player on Saturday Night Live. She co-anchored with Seth Meyers. Later she co-anchored with Colin Jost. For season 40 of SNL’s Weekend Update, she was played by Michael Che, upon her own request. Strong had felt that she needed to focus more on sketches.

She has played numerous recurring characters on the show including Dana, Heather, Kyra, Cathy Anne, Gemma, Gracelynn Chisholm, and other unnamed characters. Moreover, Cecily Strong has done celebrity impressions of Huma Abedin, Scottie Nell Hughes, Gloria Estefan, Dianne Feinstein,  Brooke Baldwin, Sarah Koenig, Tara Lipinski, etc.

Cecily Strong was also featured at the 2015 White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where she took digs at politicians and attendees. She has starred in TBS's Angie Tribeca and in Fox's Scream Queens as well. In addition, Strong has appeared in a commercial for Triscuit and Old Navy alongside Nasim Pedrad and Jay Pharoah.

Strong has also ventured into acting. Films in which she has acted are The Bronze (2015), Slow Learners (2015), The Meddler (2015), Staten Island Summer (2015), The Boss (2016), Ghostbusters (2016), and The Female Brain (2018).
