Early Career
McLachlan’s early years as an actor were a struggle. He auditioned for TV commercials but was unsuccessful. So he returned home to work as a laborer and a plumber's assistant.
Craig McLachlan did make his second attempt in the film and TV industry. He eventually landed a guest role in the TV soap opera Sons and Daughters in late 1986. Finally, in 1987 he was cast as Henry Ramsay, a regular role, in the TV series Neighbours. He portrayed the character from 1987 to 1989 which is his breakthrough role.

In February 2018 he filed defamation suits against ABC and Fairfax Media. In April hearing one of his indecent assault charges was dropped by the prosecutor. In April 2020 it was reported that 13 accusations remained while he has long maintained his innocence.
