Gwendoline Christie is an actress, model by profession, and British by nationality. She is best known for her role as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Gwendoline Christie’s birth took place on 28 October 1978 in Worthing, England. She was born Gwendoline Tracey Philippa Christie. Her mother is a homemaker while her father worked in sales and marketing. She has two siblings, both older half-brothers.

Education, Ethnicity

For education, she attended Warden Park School and later Drama Centre London, graduating with a First Class BA (Hons) in 2005. Growing up, she was a gymnast but due to a spine injury, she had turned to acting as a professional.

Before fame

Starting out as an actress, Gwendoline Christie did struggle to find the perfect role, mostly due to her towering height. Even her agent told her "well, good luck with that" when she stated she would like to act. But she felt encouraged after watching Tilda Swinton's performance in Orlando.

In 2002, she used to work in a boutique. The same year, she attracted the attention of photographer Polly Borland. Between 2002 to 2008 she was featured in a series of photographs titled Bunny, which mostly featured her nude.

Gwendoline Christie began her professional career in 2006 in theatre plays. She landed a minor role in the film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and in the TV series Seven Ages of Britain Teaser (2010).

Worked in

Finally, in 2012, Christie landed the role of Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones. She has appeared in the series from season 2 to season 8. 

Since her breakthrough role, she has starred in films The Zero Theorem (2013), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), Welcome to Marwen (2018) while films The Personal History of David Copperfield and The Friend is soon to be released.

In TV series, she has appeared in Wizards vs Aliens (2012–2013), Top of the Lake: China Girl (2017), and Star Wars Resistance (2018). Moreover, she has lent her voice to video games Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2016) and Star Wars Battlefront II (2017).

Christie has starred alongside Natalie Dormer, Rory McCann, Max von Sydow, Kristofer Hivju, and Jacob Anderson.
