Heather McComb was introduced to actor James Van Der Beek by her sister, who had worked with Van Der Beek in Dawson's Creek (1998). They soon started dating and eventually got engaged to her boyfriend. They married on July 5, 2003.

But after years together, they separated in April 2009, and Heather McComb’s husband filed for divorce in November of the same year. Their divorce was finalized on March 31, 2010, and enforced on June 3, 2010. McComb did not have any children from this marriage. 

Currently, she is single and is much more focused on her career.

Her ex-husband is now married to Kimberly Brook, a business consultant, and have six children together.
