Born on 18 July 1985, James Norton is the son of mother Lavinia Jane Norman and father Hugh Biddulph Norton. His birthplace is London, England, and his birth name/full name is James Geoffrey Ian Norton. Both his parents worked as teachers. His father was a lecturer at the Hull School of Art and Design.
Norton has a sister named Jessica Norton. Both siblings were raised in North Yorkshire.

As for education, James Norton attended Ampleforth College. After graduation, he enrolled at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge to study theology in 2004. He graduated with First Class Honours in 2007. He also attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art for three years but dropped out in 2010, just six months before graduation.

James Norton was in a relationship with his former girlfriend Jessie Buckley in 2015. The two had starred alongside War & Peace. The couple soon broke up.
In December 2017, it was revealed that he is dating Imogen Poots. They had starred together in Belleville at the Donmar Warehouse. In February 2022 it was reported that the couple got engaged after Norton proposed to his girlfriend of four years. They are yet to marry and have children of their own.

James Norton – Career
Early Days
James Norton was an active participant in theatre since he was 15 years old. Back then, he used to work at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. While a student at Cambridge, he was a member of the Marlowe Society theatre club and also portrayed characters in college theatre production.
He had even received a Fitzwilliam Travel Grant to travel to India. There he taught and performed for school children at 16 different schools.

Films, Series
In 2009, he was cast alongside Carey Mulligan in An Education. James Norton went on to act in That Face (2010), Journey's End (2011), Cheerful Weather for the Wedding (2012), Rush (2013), Belle (2013), Mr. Turner, Northmen: A Viking Saga, Flatliners (2017), Mr. Jones (2019), Little Women (2019).
Finally, in 2014, Norton landed his breakthrough role as Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley. He continued to portray the character until 2016. Since then, he has starred in Death Comes to Pemberley (2013), Grantchester (2014-2019), Life in Squares (2015), War & Peace (2016), and McMafia (2018), among others.
James Norton’s theatrical work includes Posh at the Royal Court Theatre, The Lion in Winter, and The Lion in Winter at the Theatre Royal located in Haymarket, Belleville (2017-2018) at the Donmar Warehouse Theatre, London.
There were also expectations that he would be the English bloke to replace Daniel Craig as the new James Bond in James Bond movies.
