Who is Kathryn Dennis?

Kathryn Dennis is a reality TV star, TV personality by profession, and American by nationality. She rose to fame with the Bravo reality series Southern Charm and frequently hits the headlines due to her legal feud with ex-boyfriend Thomas Ravenel, custody battles, and addiction issues.

Kathryn Dennis – Age, Parents, Siblings

Kathryn Dennis’s birth took place on August 5, 1992, in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. She was born Kathryn Calhoun Dennis to mother Allison Dennis and father Luke Dennis Sr. She is not the only child of her parents and has a sibling, an older brother named Luke Dennis Jr. Both were raised in family-owned Lewisfield Plantation.

Her grandfather is Senator Rembert Coney Dennis and she is also a direct descendant of John C. Calhoun, the 7th Vice President of the United States.

Education, Ethnicity

Not much is known about her educational background except that she attended ‎ Berkeley High School and graduated in 2008. She went on to join the University of South Carolina where she studied political science and women's studies. But it is not clear if she completed her college education.

Her ethnicity is Caucasian.

Kathryn Dennis – Boyfriend, Husband, Children

Dennis met former State Treasurer Thomas Ravenel while on the show Southern Charm. Although Ravenel is 30 years older than Kathryn Dennis, the generation gap did not bother them.

They soon began to date in 2014 and fell in love. Kathryn Dennis and her on-and-off boyfriend welcomed two children together- daughter Kensington Calhoun Ravenel was born on 23 March 2014 and son St. Julien Rembert Ravenel was born on 9 November 2015. But Ravenel was never her husband as the two never married.

But their relationship was never a stable one. They separated the same year in 2014 but had reconciled after Kensington’s birth. Their relationship issues were said to have started in 2015 after their child's nanny accused him of sexually assaulting her. Ravenel even was reported to have paid the nanny hush money.

The arguments and differences again flared up in May 2016 and have been in a public and legal feud ever since.

In July 2020 People reported that Dennis is dating Chleb Ravenell. The pair had been dating for several months before it was reported.

Kathryn Dennis – Divorce, Custody battle

Kathryn Dennis and Thomas Ravenel were never married, to begin with. So their relationship ended in a break-up rather than a divorce. They broke up in 2016 soon after the birth of their son. Ever since their separation, the two ex-lovers have fought over their children’s custody.

Dennis lost custody of her children due to her drug addiction and was barred from visiting them too often. She was found to be taking marijuana, amphetamine, and cocaine and spent time in rehab.

But her addiction battles did not stop there. Soon after, the reality star was charged with underage drinking and disorderly conduct and was sentenced to a Berkeley jail. During this time, Ravenel was given temporary custody of their children for about two years.

Kathryn Dennis did not give up on her children’s custody and filed an appeal in court while also accusing Ravenel of drug abuse. She was granted the joint care of her children but Ravenel’s child custody matter is on hold as he is under investigation by the Charleston Police Department.

She also has hooked up with or dated her co-stars Whitney Sudler-Smith, and T-Rav. Otherwise, Dennis is an unmarried, single mother sans husband.

Kathryn Dennis – Career

Before Fame

Before Kathryn Dennis was a reality TV star, she was a model and still is. She started out modeling at the age of 14. In 2008, she worked at Fitness World and Old Santee Canal Park.

In her later years, i.e. in 2010, she worked as an intern in the lieutenant governor's office. While at the office, she scheduled and organized databases, wrote letters, and distributed Centenarian awards to nursing homes across the state.

The same year Kathryn Dennis worked a page for Senator John Land, where she managed the phones, mail, errands, typing letters, scheduling, and constituent services.

After leaving politics far behind Dennis moved back home to Charleston and began her career in reality TV. She has also modeled for Azalea, a benefit event Couture for a Cure, among others.

On the show

In 2014, Kathryn Dennis joined the cast of Bravo’s reality series Southern Charm. The show revolves around the lives of seven South Carolina-based socialites. In addition, she has appeared on Watch What Happens: Live, Celebrity Page.

In addition to being a reality TV star, Dennis is also a businesswoman. She launched a line of children's furniture called Kensie + Saint, is the brand ambassador for a Charleston department store called Gwynn's, and is expanding her role to include a creative partner at the newly launched Gwynn’s Studio. 

She also redesigns vintage items by giving them a modern twist and a vintage aesthetic.
