Kyle Chandler was born on September 17, 1965, as Kyle Martin Fitzgerald Chandler. His birthplace is Buffalo, New York, the U.S.A. to parents Edward Chandler, a pharmaceutical sales representative, and Sally Jeanette, a dog breeder. He has three siblings among which two are Kelcey Chandler (sister) and Brian Chandler (brother), who is now a successful attorney.
Along with his siblings, his parents raised him in Lake Forest, Illinois. At the age of 11, the family moved to Loganville, Georgia.

Chandler attended George Walton Academy and graduated from the same in 1983. During high school, he used to play football and also was a member of the 1979 state championship football team. Following his father's death of a heart attack when Kyle Chandler was 14 years old, he left football a year later. Instead, he began to participate in theatre programs.
For further education, Chandler attended the University of Georgia to earn a bachelor’s degree in drama but dropped out as he was seven credits short.
His ethnicity includes German, English, and Irish.

Kyle Chandler dated and married his girlfriend Kathryn Macquarrie in 1995. They had first met at a dog park in the mid-1990s.
Chandler has welcomed two daughters with his wife. Their first child is named Sydney Chandler and the second daughter is named Sawyer Chandler. As of now, Sawyer Chandler is an activist against the practice of shark finning. Currently, the couple is living a blissful marriage without rumors of extra-marital affairs and divorce.

Kyle Chandler was cast as a supporting actor in the 1988 TV film Quiet Victory which was followed by Tour of Duty. In 1994, he starred alongside Ashley Judd in Picnic. In 1996, he was cast as the lead character in Early Edition, the role he played until 2000.

Kyle Chandler has an enormous contribution in the field of series as well. He has portrayed roles in Tour of Duty (1990), Homefront (199-1993), What About Joan (2000-2001), The Lyon's Den (2003), Grey's Anatomy (2006-2007), Friday Night Lights (2006-2011), Bloodline (2015-2017), Catch 22 (2019).
In addition to his work in TV series, he is also well known for his portrayal of characters in movies. He has starred in King Kong, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Argo (2012), The Wolf of Wall Street, Manchester by the Sea (2017), First Man (2018), and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). Currently, he is filming Godzilla vs. Kong for 2020 while Godzilla: King of the Monsters is already under production.
