Who is Matthew Lawrence?

Matthew Lawrence is an actor, singer by profession, and American by nationality. He is best known for his work in Mrs. Doubtfire, Boy Meets World, and Brotherly Love.

Matthew Lawrence – Age, Parents, Siblings

Matthew Lawrence’s birth took place on February 11, 1980, in Abington Township, Pennsylvania, USA. He was born Matthew William Lawrence to his mother Donna Lynn (née Shaw), a personnel manager, and his father Joseph Lawrence, Sr., an insurance broker.

He is the not only child of his parents and two siblings- older brother Joey Lawrence and younger brother Andy Lawrence. Both of his brothers are actors.

Matthew Lawrence was educated at Abington Friends School and later enrolled at the University of South Carolina where he studied biology. He also studied acting at HBO Studio in New York City.

His ethnicity includes Italian and British.

Matthew Lawrence – Girlfriend, Wife, Children, Divorce

Lawrence was in a relationship with actress Heidi Mueller and was even engaged to her from December 2004 to March 2006. The same year in 2006, he started to date professional dancer Cheryl Burke. This affair too ended a year later in 2007. He also had a fling with Laura Jayne New from 2013 to 2015.

Around 11 years later, Matthew Lawrence reconciled with Cheryl Burke in February 2017. He proposed to Burke on May 3, 2018, which was also her birthday. The couple married on May 23, 2019, in San Diego, California.

He has not shared his future prospects with the public. However, his wife has revealed that she does want to have children in the near future. In January 2022, it was confirmed that they had separated and had filed for divorce.

He is currently believed to be single.

Before Fame

Lawrence began his professional career as an actor in 1984. He was only 4 years old but had booked  2 national commercials. His debut role was Danny Carrington in TVs series Dynasty for a total of 3 episodes.

Throughout the 1990s he continued to keep his name as a child actor, appearing in TV series Lifestories: Families in Crisis (1990), Angels in the Endzone (1997), Gimme a Break! (1986-1987), Walter & Emily (1991-1992), and in the films Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), The Hairy Bird (1998), etc.

Breakthrough role

Finally, in 1994 he landed his breakthrough role in Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad as Sam Collins / Servo and played the character until 1995.

He played the character until 1997. Soon after Matthew Lawrence landed the main role of Matt Roman in Brotherly Love (1995-1997) and as Jack Hunter in Boy Meets World  (1997-2000).

Recent Works

In recent years, Matthew Lawrence has had roles in films The Hot Chick (2002), Trucker (2008), and My Santa (2013). His roles in TV series include CSI: Miami (2003), Melissa & Joey (2011-2014), Girl Meets World (2015), and Hawaii Five-0 (2019), to name a few.

Music Career

Matthew Lawrence began his singing performance in 1986. He and his brother Joey performed at the 1986 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and has also sung in a few TV series episodes.

Again with his brother Joey, he started a band called Still Three in 2017. They also have released their debut single titled Lose Myself.
