Who is Cheryl Burke?

Cheryl Burke is a dancer, model, TV host, author by profession, and American by nationality. She is best known as a contestant on  ABC's Dancing with the Stars.

Cheryl Burke’s birth took place on May 3, 1984, in San Francisco, California, USA. She was born as Cheryl Stephanie Burke to her mother Sherri Bautista Burke and her father Stephen Louis Burke. She is the only child of her parents but has half-siblings and step-siblings from her parent's relationships.

She has two younger half-sisters named Nicole Burke and Ina Burke. Cheryl Burke met Ina for the first time four months after their father passed away in March 2018. From her mother’s marriage to Bob Wolf, she has a step-sister named Mandy Wolf.

For education, Cheryl Burke attended Menlo-Atherton High School from where she also graduated. Her ethnicity includes Filipino, Irish, and Russian.

Cheryl Burke – Boyfriend, Husband, Children, Divorce

Since her rise to fame in 2006, Burke has had a high-profile relationship and boyfriends. She dated Maxwell Zagorski from 2008 to 2010, Joffrey Lupul in 2012, Josh Hopkins in 2014, and J.T. Torregiani from 2014 to 2015.

Burke had first met actor Matthew Lawrence during 2006 DWTS and had soon begun dating. But the couple broke up just after a year of the relationship. 11 years later, in 2017 they reconciled.

Lawrence proposed to her on 3 May 2018, on her birthday, and the couple married on 23 May 2019 at the Fairmont Grand del Mar in San Diego. She also revealed that she wants to have children with her husband but it never came to be. However, in January 2022, it was confirmed that they have separated and filed for divorce.

Cheryl Burke – Career

Burke started dancing when she was 4 years old and at the age of 11 began ballroom dancing.

In Dancing With the Stars

Cheryl Burke first came to light as a contestant on the second season of Dancing With the Stars (DWTS) as a contestant. She has paired with 98 Degrees member Drew Lachey and the duo won the competition.

In the third season of DWTS, Burke’s partner was retired football star, Emmitt Smith. In this season too she won the competition. This victory made her the first female professional to win the show and the first professional to win twice and consecutively.

For season 4, Cheryl Burke was partnered up with actor Ian Ziering but finished in fourth place. Cheryl Burke has participated in season 5 of DWTS through season 19. After a few years of pause, she competed in seasons 23, 25, and 27.

On DWTS, Burke has partnered up with celebrities Cristián de la Fuente, Maurice Greene, Gilles Marini, Chad Ochocinco, Chris Jericho, William Levy, Jack Osbourne, Drew Carey, and Juan Pablo Di Pace, among others.

Aside from the show, she has had appearances in Toy Story 3 (2010) and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody (2005). She also has her own clothing line with home shopping giant QVC as her retail partner.

She was also nominated for 2006’s Emmy — Outstanding Choreography.

Cheryl Burke – Controversy

While on season four of DWTS and her partner was Ian Ziering, she said that  Ziering was her least-favorite dance partner ever on DWTS and had begged the show's producers to eliminate her every week and that being around Ziering made her want to "slit my wrists".

She later apologized for reference to suicide but did not withdraw anything she said about Ziering.
